Here's another piece from CCAC (1981-'85). I believe it was drawn in Carole Peel's portraiture class.

Pleasanton Parks and Rec had an ongoing figure workshop for years. This drawing is from the early to mid 90's.

Catherine D'Lish is a wonderful artist, performer, and beauty of burlesque. She personally provided photographic inspiration for this piece.
It was originally shown at a High School dance with a Moulin Rouge theme in 2003.

In the '80's Big Al would go to comedy clubs and draw caricatures of the comedians while they performed. Drawing burlesque, variety performers and musicians is an extension of that.

The Twilight Vixen Revue came out in force to model at Dr. Sketchy's East Bay in July at Disco Volante in Oakland.

They were fantastic!

Next session is Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 4pm.

I did my first few sketches in pencil.

They took some nice action poses.

Brush and ink always makes for sweet lines!

This is a performance capture.

Pen & Ink, This drawing garnered me the Dr. Sketchy's prize package of art supplies from Utrecht.

I offered a free caricature with the purchase of artwork. They were fun to do. Not my standard black & white marker sketches.

This watercolor and ink drawing done at Dr. Sketchy SF's Bowie theme night.

Artist and Dr. Sketchy's SF director, Alice Stribling, was the recipient of the caricature below for her purchase of Bowie Night at Dr. Sketchy's SF.

The other piece that sold that evening was a caricature study of rock star, American Idol judge, Steven Tyler.

The recipient of the other free caricature of the evening was Keiko and Zach Trenholm. Zach's a fellow caricaturist and friend I first met when researching the National Caricaturist Network now ISCA in 1994.

Thanks for a great evening!

I wasn't quite sure what to title the piece.

Sixty-two area artists. Forty-one different locations in East Contra Costa County, from Pittsburg to Discovery Bay.

The Lynn House Gallery, located at 809 West First Street in Antioch, will present an art preview and group exhibit of the Artists’ Open Studio Tour. The exhibited artwork includes paintings, ceramics, textiles, drawings, sculptures, glass, jewelry, printmaking, photography, and mixed media.

This preview Exhibit is a representation of all the artists' work, and an ideal way to plan which studios to visit. A sixteen page, full color Tour Guide with illustrations of the Tour Artists work and maps to the Studio locations are free and available at the Lynn House Gallery, Chambers of Commerce, Aaron Brothers - Brentwood, 110° Magazine and at other locations throughout East Contra Costa County.

Livermore Artwalk 2009 Banner Auction

I painted this in August. It's my first acrylic since high school.

There was a theme the artist's could follow if they chose: Peace, Love & Recycle.

I incorporated the "Peace, Love & Recycle" by recycling themes I've used over the years (tikis, pinups, and objects - Livermore's Centennial Park Totem Pole which I drew back in high school).
I used reference of Bettina May and go-go Amy of the Pretty Things Peepshow for the lovelies hanging about the tiki.
The tiki was inspired by the totem pole at Centennial Park located on the North East corner of 4th and Holmes. It is so named because the Centennial Time Capsule was buried there in 1969. Later the time capsule could not be located, even by sophisticated metal detection equipment. It turned out that it was located under the totem pole.

My banner is hanging at 2nd Street between J and K Streets near Tommie's Deli in Livermore, CA 94550. There are banners on 1st Street, 2nd Street and North Livermore Avenue. Many artists created banners. They will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for the Bothwell Arts Center on October 10:

September 26th is going to be a busy day for Big AL. I'll be in Castro Valley for an Open Studio event during the day and at Hell's Belles 4th Annual Pinewood Derby and Silent Art Auction in the evening.

One side of the car has a toothy grin and the other a classic tongue wag.

I also donated my "Xmas Bettie" for the silent art auction.

Big Al's most recent work is inspired by the female form. Utilizing pen, brush, ink, watercolor and a variety of dry drawing media he creates his pieces live from todays modern pin-up girls, burlesque dancers, fetish models, roller derby girls and others capturing personality and character. His work blends a mix of figure drawing, caricature and pin-up. He's been an avid figurative artist most of his adult life. Attending life drawing sessions in Pleasanton, Livermore and beyond. In 2007 he attended alternative figure groups in Los Angeles, San Francisco (Dr. Sketchy's) and Sacramento (Pompsicle).

This drawing is of the two previous Barbies posed together on top of the easel as I drew them.
The size proportions are a little off, but I like it!!!

Here's another drawing I did for the show:

It's 12x8" drawn in prismacolor on a pinkish soft textured paper.

I chose to just do some drawings from some old Barbies we had around the house. Some "life" or "still life" drawings. If you go to the show you will see actual altered Barbies. Meaning, she (or Ken or her kin ;) ) may be in a diorama of some extravagance, or portraying religious or pop culuture icons (some of the funnest wall recreations have been of the last supper), or her head or other body parts may make something else or be re-animated so to speak. It's a really interesting show every year.
